Moving back

Wahai pembaca sekalian,

Seriously, I hate wordpress.com. Too little can be done with the pages, it limits what little creativity I have. No Javascripts, lembab mcm kura2, and no CSS.

I’m moving back to bitchingandthoughts.blogspot.com peeps!

This site will not be updated anymore.

Whatever.

Some like it hot grey

On August 31st, while Malaysians in Malaysia were celebrating our tanahair’s 49th year of Independence, the Malaysians in Madison were in joyous moments celebrating a couple who said their ‘I do’s’ on the very night.

Ibrain and Suri's wedding

Suriani Kempe, whom I’ve known since 2002 married Ibrain Marcano, of Puerto Rican descendent. Doesn’t he look a bit like Vin Diesel? ;)

I was given the honor of being the maid of honor and also, believe it or not, the bride’s make-up artist! :) This is the second time for me as a (amateur, yeah) make-up artist in a pretty big occasion. The first time was during my sister’s engagement ceremony. Too lazy to dig for a pic of my sister’s getting engaged. Will do, later. But you won’t get the 1-inch tepung-gomak look from me. You know, during those weddings when you barely recognize the bride because somehow she has transformed from a brown girl into a Japanese opera singer? Without the singing part, of course. I just don’t understand why every bride in Malaysia has to be fair (snow white is more like it) even if she’s pretty dark to begin with. I remember a friend who got married last year. She’s of mamak’s descendent and her skin is naturally on the darker side. But when I saw her wedding pictures (I couldn’t attend the wedding), I thought to myself, this wasn’t her… they mustve got the pictures mixed-up.

I think it must be because the mak-andams can’t afford to have every C’s, NC’s and NW’s shades of their MAC foundations… thus, the standard tepung-gomak shade. Kinda like one shade fits all. (Lagi nak charge beribu-ribu..). If that’s the case then, don’t la use the expensive make-up line. Use that Loreal True Match foundations that will be perfect for 99% of skin tones. Jimat duit, customer pun happy. Well, come to think of it, lots of Malaysians are wayy comfortable using the wrong shade of foundation that will either make them look like the way discussed above if they’re fair, or will get them the ubiquitous ‘kelabu’ complexion, if they’re brown, in natural light setting. Yes? No?

And oh, use concealer to cover blemishes, not tons of foundation, seriously..

Happiness and longing rolled into one

On August 25th, I welcomed another birthday anniversary.

Birthday Dy

A bunch of peeps came over to join in the celebration. Or to only eat for free (:p) … haha.. tak kisah la labu, the more the merrier. We had bihun goreng prepared by the Event Planner, also fondly known as my temporary roommate who got the bihun goreng inspiration from Encik Ajim (whoever that is)… they sang me the birthday song… they were 23 candles on the cake, they disputed that they were 27 (ngok ngek, I’m not that old).. we savored the cake which was a bit on the sweet side but was still very nice (thanks laling ;) )… had more food… played Bluff, and I, the birthday girl, was bullied… yikes!

Thank God there were no telur ok? I wouldn’t tolerate any… snort

No, really, thanks all for coming.. :)
On a totally different note, why has it been devastatingly frustrating to find my perfect pair of jeans? Fall is coming and my ass’s gonna freeze if I continue wearing the skirts or the capris… my old comfy jeans are so worn out or torn, I need new ones really quick! Express have different fits for their new generations of denim pants now, which are not kind for my figure, and sadly thats where I’ve been buying my jeans from, before the new gens.. ermm.. only when they were having their Semi-Annual $20-off All Jeans sale that is. Yeah, sounds petty I know, but not having really thin figure and very particular about how you look makes it so hard to settle for just any denims on the market today. Most of the junior-fit jeans have no space for the butt, they’ll end up pushing your butt down… so not best ok… and it won’t feel that nice either. “let my behind be free pls!”.

It’s one thing with the no-butt space thing, the other problem is the waistline is usually so huge, a belt is a must so that you don’t end up looking like you’re standing in a snug barrel. What’s with America’s body shape today? No butt and huge waist?

And those jeans that make you look like a sausage.. Not the jeans fault, its the wearers’ for choosing two sizes too small for their trunk and they think its hot. It’s really their fault that the designers nowadays make only no-butt-and-huge-waist jeans. I rebel!

Check out America’s today’s ‘hot’ looks here.

Kuih Sagu and the Devil

Inilah kuih sagu saya.

kuihsagudy

It’s a rare sight, haha, cos it’s green.

So I’m done with kuih sagu craving. It’s so nice being an adult, right, when you can cook/bake/make actual food and eat it too. We could only main masak-masak back then when we were little. I remember this one time my cousins and I (the boys included, haha) cooked our first actual food, cekodok, outdoor, with a wok and unggun api under the rambutan tree at my grandma’s. I must’ve been eleven at that time (kot).

I think I’m more of a baker than a cook. I wish I was a pastry chef so I can fill my tummy with those scrumptious-looking french pastries.

Diverting from the subject of culinary, I’m sure most of you, who would want to see it, have seen the Devil Wears Prada by now.

pradareview

I saw it again, half of it actually, yesterday and decided, besides all those glitterati, Pradas, Marc Jacobs, Chanel boots and fictional designers’ dresses and purses worth gawking at, that I don’t really like the movie, or at least the message it’s trying to convey. When I watched it the first time, I didn’t go “Yay!” at the ending of the movie. I was quite astounded, really.

So a woman can’t have both – the fabulous job at a glamorous, the-only-one-that-matter magazine, Runaway AND maintain a healthy relationship with the boyfriend. She has to choose, whereas in most situation, men don’t. We’ve all seen in movies where the man leaves the house in the morning for his dream job, and comes home in the evening to the happy, similing wife and kids. He misses games, birthdays but the wife is really understanding.

So those woman who have their dream jobs, those women at Runaway magazine, they have to be either promiscuous (which I think they are, since all are shown kissing their bedpartner in the morning before leaving for work or talking to a guy at parties) or boy-proof to hold down that job. If you decide to stick yourself to a guy, a potential life partner, you can be ready to haul your box of paraphernalias and say bye-bye to your office space.

It’s just plain wrong. I wonder what Lauren Weisberger was thinking when she wrote the book (which the movie was based on). I know she used to work for Anna Wintour, the real-life editor of Vogue, but since she wasn’t anymore, did she pack along a box personal grudge against those fabulous New York women and the likes of them, together with her stuff when she left?

Miranda Pristley, the formidable and legendary editor (the Anna Wintour of Runaway) got a divorce towards the end of the movie.

The author really seems to me like a kid holding a revenge against her former employee and she secretly hopes (and subltly conveys) that those whom she worked with are doomed to have bad romantic relationships and die alone. Tsk tsk.

On the other hand, I don’t think I’ll be one of those important women who have their important jobs and when they don’t show up to work one day their companies would crumble. I’ll refuse to be one since I totally value my own private, leisure time (with the family!). =p

The Return of the King [functioning] Tummy

I haven’t been able to enjoy proper meals since last Monday. Dah la tekak loya, tak rasa nak makan at all (no, there’s no bun in the oven), and when I manage to shove some food down my throat, I threw up what little food survived (or so they thought) the trip down my esophagus to my stomach. I could taste stomach acid with every piece of barely digested meat and veggies. Bau fried food sikit je rasa nak muntah..

Anywho, the feel-good stomach has returned!! And it returns with a lot of craving. After being forlorn and scaring ppl away for five days I celebrated this afternoon with a grilled tuna steak sandwich, fried potato smileys and ice cweamm.. yess, ice cweamm.. good, ol ice cweam that always makes us feel happy (while savoring it that is. After habiskan, always rasa guilty).

Know what I crave the most now (after satisfying my ice cweam craving)? Kuih sagu.

Kuih Sagu

Tak ke sedap nampak nya tu? No amount of grilled tuna steak sandwich can beat the sweet taste of kuih sagu. Moist, lembik2, sweet, salty, sirap-y, coconut-y. Yum! Sedapnye2.. I wonder if its easy to make.. hmm..

More good food coming my way!
